Find Your Panel’s IMEI Number

Locate your alarm panel (usually in a hallway closet, utility room, or garage). The IMEI number is a 15-digit code printed on a sticker on the back or inside of the panel. You can also find it in your panel’s system settings under “About” or “Module Info.”

The IMEI identifies the cellular communicator inside your panel. We use it to verify your system is compatible and ready for activation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from new homeowners who find a security system already installed in their home.

What if the security system was deactivated by the previous owner?
That is completely normal. When the previous owner cancelled their monitoring service, the system was deactivated — but the hardware remains. The alarm panel, sensors, and cellular communicator are all still installed in your home. As long as the panel has a working Alarm.com cellular module, SECUTER can reactivate it. Use our Compatibility Checker to verify your system is ready.
What if the system is already registered with another provider?
If the previous owner’s monitoring service is still active, the cellular module will show as registered to their provider. In this case, the previous owner (or their provider) needs to cancel the service and release the Alarm.com module. If you cannot reach the previous owner, contact us at 855-732-8837 and we will help you navigate the process. In some cases, we can facilitate a transfer through Alarm.com.
How do I find the IMEI number on my alarm panel?
The IMEI is a 15-digit number printed on a sticker on the back or inside of your alarm panel. For touchscreen panels (Qolsys, 2GIG), you can also find it in the system settings under “About” or “Module Info.” If your panel is mounted to the wall, the sticker may be on the back — try taking a photo with your phone’s flashlight. Do I need to buy new equipment?
In most cases, no. If your home has a compatible alarm panel with a working Alarm.com cellular communicator, you can activate monitoring without purchasing anything new. The existing sensors (door/window, motion, glass break, smoke) will all continue to work. If your system needs a cellular module upgrade or has outdated components, SECUTER Direct can provide equipment and professional installation in the NY metro area.
Can I add new sensors or cameras to the existing system?
Yes. Once your system is active with SECUTER, you can expand it with additional door/window sensors, motion detectors, cameras, smart locks, thermostats, and more. Self-service customers can purchase Alarm.com-compatible equipment and add it themselves. SECUTER Direct customers get access to professional installation for add-on equipment.
What if the panel is powered off or looks dead?
First, check that the panel is plugged into a power outlet and that the circuit breaker for the panel has not been turned off. Most panels also have a backup battery — if the battery is dead and there is no AC power, the panel will not turn on. Plug it in, give it a few minutes to boot up, and then check if the screen or LEDs respond. If the panel still does not power on, call us at 855-732-8837 and we can help troubleshoot.
Is there a gap in monitoring when I activate?
For self-service plans, monitoring begins as soon as your Alarm.com account is created (usually within minutes of completing checkout). If the system was previously deactivated, there is no overlap or gap — you simply go from unmonitored to monitored. Your panel’s local alarm (siren) functions even without monitoring, so you have basic protection at all times.
